About
My name is Andrew McFarlane Millar and I'm currently working as an ICT Technician in a secondary school in Gateshead, UK. My work involves designing and maintaining the school's website and Frog Virtual learning Environment, as well as helping to maintain the school's ICT infrastructure.
I have been interested in web design/development for about tens years, originally starting with a basic frames based website for a student cinema I was part of while at University. After self-learning for many years I decided to undertake more formal training and have gained a Master Certified Internet Webmaster Designer qualification and the Open University's Certificate in Web Application Development, both through distance learning courses. I am continuing to study with the Open University towards acquiring an open degree, using credits from my time at Loughborough University studying Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Computer Science. So far I have completed the module Object-oriented programming with Java and am currently studying the Fundamentals of interaction design module.
Most of my current website's are designed using CSS positioned and styled, semantic XHTML. For back ends I prefer to use PHP and MySQL and use both custom and open source Javascript/JQuery plugins to create dynamic features. I have an interest in computer art which I draw upon in designing my sites and have experience in realising other peoples designs.
The following is a full list of my IT skills:
Working experience of:
- HTML, XHTML and CSS2.
- PHP, MySQL and Javascript.
- Dreamweaver.
- Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, Jasc Paint Shop Pro and Corel Draw.
- Using and administering all current versions of Microsoft Windows and Office.
- Administration of Microsoft Server 2000, Server 2003, Exchange 2005 and Active Directory.
- Building, maintaining and repairing computer hardware and peripherals.
Personal experience of:

While I am not currently marketing myself as a freelance web developer, I would be interested in work on smaller business sites or collaborative work on larger projects. To contact me about this please email me at webmaster@shadowcraftdesign.co.uk.
